DuraFlex Chimney Cap & Crown Nationwide

Every visit starts with

Level 1 sweep and inspection to the NFPA 211 annual standard - flue, crown, cap, and flashing checked and photographed

Worth knowing

Chimney sweep logs do not sweep chimneys. They loosen some creosote - which then falls where a brush and vacuum still have to collect it.

DuraFlex Chimney Cap & Crown in Washington: What to Know First

DuraFlex chimney cap and crown work in Washington runs between $185 and $2,400 depending on whether you need a simple cap replacement or a full custom crown rebuild, and most jobs are completed in a single visit. We’re an independent DuraFlex service provider, not a factory-authorized shop, which means we repair what’s actually wrong and don’t push replacement parts when a properly installed aftermarket component does the job better. If you own a DuraFlex liner system or cap and you’re seeing water damage, spalling brick, or a cap that’s rusted through, call (240) 621-1264 and we’ll give you a written price before anything gets touched.

This page is for Washington homeowners who already have DuraFlex components on their chimney and want to know exactly what’s failing, what it costs, and whether it’s safe to wait. Corrine Halstead has been running chimney work across Washington since before the current wave of rowhouse flips, and she’ll tell you plainly what the camera shows. No charge for the estimate. Ever.

How DuraFlex Products Fail - and How We Fix Them

  • DuraFlex 316L smooth-wall liner with a rusted termination cap. The liner holds up in Washington’s humidity, but the cap it came with rarely does. We see this on rowhouses across Capitol Hill and Shaw: the cap’s mesh screen corrodes first, then the cap body, and water follows the flue down onto the smoke shelf. Fix is a stainless cap sized to the liner’s termination, usually $185 to $340 installed, and it stops the rot before the liner takes damage.
  • DuraFlex DFC (double-wall flex) with a crown that cracks at the flue tile junction. This one shows up in older Washington homes where the original clay tile crown was never replaced. The double-wall liner fits inside, but the concrete crown around it expands and contracts with freeze-thaw cycles, and after a few DC winters the gap opens. Water tracks down the outside of the liner, rusts the outer wall, and you get a brown stain inside the firebox the next season. Our fix is either a crown patch with a flexible sealant or a full poured crown replacement, depending on how much of the crown has spalled.
  • DuraFlex Al29-4C stainless liner with a missing or undersized rain cap. We pull a lot of these in Washington’s older masonry chimneys where the original cap was never upgraded when the liner went in. The undersized cap lets wind-driven rain blow across the top of the flue tile, which is exactly the failure mode that voids the liner’s warranty if you let it go. We install a properly sized cap with a screened side mesh, and we photograph the before and after as part of the written record you get on every visit.
  • DuraFlex liner with a pour-in crown coat that’s flaking. DuraFlex’s flexible liners are solid, but they’re often installed under a crown that was never sealed correctly. The crown coat cracks, water penetrates, and the crown spalls into the flue. When a Washington homeowner sees bits of concrete on the smoke shelf during an inspection, this is almost always the cause. We’ll recommend either a CrownCoat repair or a full tear-out and recast depending on the remaining crown depth, and you’ll see the photos before you approve anything.
  • DuraFlex multi-flue cap with a failed center support. On Washington rowhouses with two flues, the multi-flue cap’s center support bracket sags over time, and the cap tilts. Water pools on the low side, then drains into whichever flue is on that end. We see this most often in Bloomingdale and Eckington, where the roofs pitch hard and the cap carries unequal snow load. Our fix is either a replacement bracket or a full cap swap to a custom-fabricated unit that matches the flue spacing.

Our DuraFlex Chimney Cap & Crown Process
  1. 1
Call comes in, a live person answers. We don’t route you to a web form. You tell us what you’re seeing, and we set a window that works. A text goes out when the tech is on the way.
  2. 2
Camera forward and back, not just a flashlight. Every DuraFlex job starts with an NFPA 211 Level 2 camera inspection. We’re running the camera from the roof down to the smoke chamber and back, and we’re looking specifically at how the DuraFlex liner, cap, and crown are interacting. Corona camera footage is part of what you keep.
  3. 3
Findings in writing, with photos. Corrine or one of our techs writes down exactly what the camera showed: crown condition, cap fitment, liner integrity, any rust or spalling. You get the photo file numbers referenced to the findings, so you can look at the same image we’re looking at.
  4. 4
The parts decision happens with you, not over your head. If it’s a straightforward cap replacement, we stock DuraFlex-compatible stainless caps and can often finish the job that day. If it’s a custom cap or crown rebuild, we explain the OEM vs aftermarket trade-off in one paragraph: OEM is sometimes the only way to keep a manufacturer’s warranty intact, but a high-quality aftermarket component often costs 30-40% less and performs identically. You see the brand, the part number, and the price before we order anything.
  5. 5
The repair or install, done to the written scope. Cap goes on, crown gets recast or coated, and we test for fitment with the flue running. No “surprise” add-ons. The price on the written scope is the price you pay.
  6. 6
Photo record and warranty handed over. You get a documented photo record of completed work, a written warranty, and the 365-Day Done Right Promise stamped on the paperwork. If the cap leaks or the crown fails within a year, we’re back to make it right.

What DuraFlex Chimney Cap & Crown Costs in Washington

Here’s where we keep the promise: the price is on the page, in dollars, and it’s what you pay.

DuraFlex Job Washington Price Range What It Includes
Replacement rain cap (standard stainless) $185-$340 Cap, mesh screen, installation, photo record
Multi-flue cap, custom-fabricated $650-$1,200 Custom sizing to flue spacing, installation, photo record
Crown patch with flexible sealant $250-$475 Surface prep, crack fill, waterproof crown coat
Full crown recast (poured concrete) $900-$1,800 Demolition, form, pour, cure, photo record
Custom cap + full crown rebuild $1,400-$2,400 Complete replacement, priced as a package

What moves the price: roof access difficulty, flue count, crown depth that’s still structurally sound, and whether the existing cap’s bracket can be reused. If you’re in a Washington rowhouse with a steep roof and a narrow parapet, the labor line goes up; if your crown is mostly intact, it comes down. Call (240) 621-1264 and we’ll give you an exact number in writing, for free, before you decide anything.

Why Washington Homeowners Call Level Two Chimney Washington for DuraFlex Work

Why Washington Homeowners Call Level Two Chimney Washington for DuraFlex Work

Most chimney companies in Washington will sell you a cap without ever running a camera through the flue to see why the old one failed. We don’t do that. Every DuraFlex job starts with a camera, and you keep the footage. The 365-Day Done Right Promise covers the work itself: if a cap leaks or a crown cracks within a year, we fix it. No argument, no trip charge.

Our techs have been in Washington’s chimneys long enough to know a DuraFlex Al29-4C liner from a 316L by the feel of the flex pitch, and they’ll tell you when a repair beats a replacement because we don’t make anything extra by selling you parts you don’t need. When a crown is beyond saving and the liner needs relining, we also work with HeatShield and Gelco products, so you’re getting the right material for the actual condition, not whatever the shop happens to stock. Choose a company that shows you the evidence, gives you the price in writing, and signs the warranty before the work starts. That’s what Corrine built this business on.
